Welcome to Snowdrop and Tulip!
This is a very important year for the children as they transition from the play based learning of EYFS to the more formal learning styles of KS1. However we make sure that this is all delivered through a fun, creative and active curriculum designed to bring out the very best in the children.
The mornings are usually spent doing the core subjects of English and Maths. All of our English topics this year are book led providing lots of opportunities to help bringing their writing to life! They will act, cook, bake, sing, and dance their way to great writing! In Maths, we are trialling the very successful White Rose Maths that allows the children more time to become immersed in different areas of maths and to develop their problem solving and reasoning skills.
The integrated curriculum is organised into six topics – Who Are We?, Toys!, Where in the world?, Where in the world? Bermondsey!, Africa! and How can I be Healthy? Again this provides the children with creative opportunities to be scientists, artists, historians, and geographers. They will learn the importance of staying fit and active through two p.e. sessions per week plus lots of other opportunities to dance and learn relaxation techniques. We have educational visits to some fantastic London venues to help bring our learning to life as well as regular walks in the park to help the children understand the seasons.
All of this is underpinned by our school commitment to the children’s emotional and social health and wellbeing with lessons in PSHE, Rights Respecting Schools, discussions in R.E. and how to be safe – at school, at home and on the internet. This helps the children to understand our core values of Respect, Responsibility and Excellence.
The children have settled in wonderfully and we are very excited about the year ahead. If you have any questions or worries, please do not hesitate to come and speak to us.
